Ajmer Sharif Dargah is the Sufi tomb of the Saint Moinuddin Chishti located in Ajmer city, Rajasthan. It is also known as Khawaja Gareeb Nawaj Dargah. The tomb is one of India’s most important Sufi tombs. Hazrat Moinuddin Chishti was a 13th- century Sufi saint, & philosopher.

The Dargah is a site of devotion and prayers respected by Hindu and Muslims. Tourists come here from around the world and offer Phoolon Ki Chaddars, rose petals, and Mannat ka Dhaga to the shrine. Ajmer Sharif Dargah is a symbol of mutual brotherhood and love.

The tomb is constructed in Indo Islamic architecture with lotus and gold crown and pure sliver doors. The tomb has 8 entrance gates but only three are in used by all. First gate is Buland Darwaja and it is donated by Nizam of Hyderabad in the 19th Century.  Dargah has total 8 tombs inside the complex and those are dedicated to his family members.

The place is beautifully designed with lots of shops and amazing art and craft shops. The place is visited by 20,000 believers every day. The daily rituals are followed by five mandatory prayers of namaz, light ceremony( Dua-e-Roshni), and qawwalis sung at night by devotional singers( Mehfil-e-sama). It is believed that if you pray anything with pure heart and devotion it gets fulfilled.

There are deghs inside dargah on the right side of Buland Darwaja presented by Emperor Akbar can cook 4800 kg of food and at the left side, there is Chhoti degh which can cook 2400 kg of food inside it at a time. At the festive times, the degh get full of money and offerings. The place is also famous for urs sharif festival and it is celebrate on the death anniversary of Moinuddin Chishti.

Things to Know Before Visiting Ajmer Sharif Dargah

Always cover your head with a hat or cloth while entering the Dargah. Men’s should carry handkerchiefs along with them and women should carry Duppata. You can’t carry your belongings inside the premises except for your mobile phone.
There is no entry fee to enter the Sharif Dargah.
Dargah remains open from 4 AM to 10 Pm in summers and 5 AM to 9 PM during winters.
