Ajmer is situated on the slope of Taragarh hill of Aravalli range in Rajasthan. The Ajmer city was inhabited in the seventh century by a Chauhan king named Ajayraj Singh. The original name of this city was ‘Ajayameru’. It was ruled by the ruler of Mewar in 1365 AD, Akbar in 1557, and several rulers of Mewar and Marwar from 1800, and finally, in 1861, it passed under British rule.

Dargah Sharif

Ajmer has many scenic spots such as the holy Sufi temple of Dargah Sharif.

Chauhan’s stronghold remained in Ajmer in 1195, until Muhammad Ghori, an Afghan ruler, defeated the last Chauhan emperor.
