Jaisalmer is a city and district headquarter in Jaisalmer District of Rajasthan. It was first founded by Maharaja Rawal Jaisal in the 11th century. The Jaisalmer city is also known as the Golden city of India. Jaisalmer is located in the middle of the Thar desert in Rajasthan. Its fort is also the part of UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Places to Explore in Jaisalmer City
Jaisalmer Fort is also known as Sonargarh fort of Rajasthan. It was built by Rawal Jaisal the first king of Jaisalmer in the 11th century. This fort is one of the best living forts on the planet with the second oldest fort in Rajasthan.
This lake is now world-famous because of the tombs around the Gadisar Lake. Gadisar lake was built by Raja Rawal Jaisal in the 11th century. It was reconstructed by Maharawal Gadsi Singh in 1367 A.D. Actually, it built to prevent rainwater for the whole town.
Patwon Ki Haveli or Patwa Haveli
Patwon ki haveli is also known as Patwa Haveli & Kothari’s Patwa Haveli. It’ll give you the true feeling of the real kingdom. It was built by Guman Chand Patwa in the early 18th century. It is located near the Jaisalmer Fort in the main city.
Salim Singh Ki Haveli (Moti Mahal)
Salim Singh ki Haveli is a restaurant & hotel located 200 meters from Jaisalmer fort. It is also known as the Moti Mahal of Jaisalmer. It is more than 200 years old haveli built by Salim Singh Ji. This beautiful place is the best time to spend something and eat something.
Vyas Chhatris is the cenotaphs built-in memory of Sage Vyas, who tells the epic Mahabharat to Lord Ganesha in the 9th century BCE. It was built in the mid 12th century and located 2 km from the Jaisalmer fort in the city.
Desert National Park
Desert National Park is the real Thar Desert with beautiful creatures. Here, you’ll only see the desert with green Bushes, mammals, and reptiles. It is located 12 km west of the Jaisalmer city in Rajasthan.

According to my personal experience, you must visit here between August and February months. Because Jaisalmer has very hot summers.

Jaisalmer Airport is the nearest airport to reach here. It is located 15 Km towards the south-west of Jaisalmer city. Another and only international Airport you have in Jaipur. Jaipur International airport is located 573 km away from Jaisalmer city.
Jaisalmer Railway station is the nearest railway station and it is located in the city. Another option is Barmer Junction and it is located 157 km away from Jaisalmer.
Jaisalmer city is located on the National Highway no. 11, 68, and district highway no. 53. Bus and taxi services are always available from every city in Rajasthan.
