History of Nagaur

Nagaur is a small city of Rajasthan but historically this place is quite important. Its old name was Ahishtrapur. Nagaur was the fief of Balban which was conquered by Sher Shah Suri in 1542. Apart from this, the mosque was built here by the Mughal emperor Akbar. The name of this mosque is Akbari Jama Masjid. This mosque is situated near the Dara Mohalla Gianni Pond in the heart of the city. The two high tower domes of this mosque bear witness to the Mughal building art. Apart from this, the Alishan Dargah remains on the northern side of Gianni Pond. This dargah is called the Dargah Sharif of Hazrat Sufi Hamiduddin Nagauri Rahmatullah Alaih. In this dargah is the Mazar Sharif of Hazrat Sufi Hamiduddin Nagauri, the special Khalifa of Khwaja Garib Nawaz Hazrat Moinuddin Chishti.
